Happy Art Love Monday!

One of my longtime favorites, Liz Nielsen, is back at Charlotte’s SOCO Gallery with her newest exhibition, Auric, and it is absolutely mesmerizing.

If you’ve followed along for a while, you may remember that I have featured Liz before. Her work has always fascinated me because what looks like painting is actually created with light.

Working completely in the dark, Liz creates one-of-a-kind chromogenic photograms by exposing light-sensitive photographic paper to carefully layered colored light. No camera. No paintbrush. Just light, chemistry, precision, and a little bit of magic.

The resulting works are glowing, graphic, and wonderfully otherworldly. Mountains, moons, floating forms, and hazy horizons appear in wildly saturated combinations of pink, orange, cobalt, chartreuse, and beyond.

Obviously, I am here for ALL the color.

Auric is Liz Nielsen’s fifth solo exhibition at SOCO Gallery, and her work continues to evolve in the most exciting way. The pieces feel futuristic yet handmade, geometric yet organic, and completely unlike anything else.

Liz is an experimental photographer based in New York’s Hudson Valley whose work has been exhibited internationally at Paris Photo, Photo London, and Unseen Amsterdam. Her work is also currently featured in a large-scale public installation at Grand Central Madison in New York City.

Lucky for us Charlotteans, her newest collection is right here at home.
