Your favorite family member deserves a portrait. Yes, the furry one.

I discovered BK Holsomback through my daughter, who lives in Dallas and already owns some of her work. Clearly, I raised her right. Color, personality, and a little Western flair? This apple did not fall far from the tree.

Dallas-based artist Blaire Kaufman Holsomback, previously known as Blaire Kaufman Art, combines painting and mixed media with inspiration from Americana, Western culture, vintage imagery, and Hollywood glamour. Her playful use of color and unexpected details gives familiar subjects a fresh twist. Naturally, I was hooked.

But today, I am particularly smitten with her custom pet portraits. With three rescue dogs, I can think of several very deserving subjects under my own roof.

Each portrait is an original painting on wood panel, finished in a natural wood floater frame. A 30-minute call with Blaire covers your pet’s reference photo, size, colors, and pattern preferences. A beloved face and colors chosen for your home? That is my kind of family portrait.

Christmas commissions are available, with limited room on her calendar. The holiday offering is $2,500 for one pet, with sizes up to 40 x 30 inches within her stated size limit. More than one pet in the portrait is an additional $500. Check the current availability before ordering, because this is a gift worth planning ahead for.

For the person who has everything but approximately 8,000 photos of their dog, consider Christmas handled. Falco would like his portrait and so would Fig.
