Book Review: Inspired Design by Jennifer Boles

My apologies for not posting yesterday… I never pushed publish. I have been quite distracted.

My respite has been diving into books each evening. I have such an amazing selection of new pre releases thanks to Vendome Press.

This latest tome by the brilliant Jennifer Boles truly is an encyclopedia of Interior Designers.  It is fascinating to see how so many have influenced how we design today. I highly recommend adding this soon to be classic to your library.

Inspired Design: The 100 Most Important Interior Designers of the Past 100 Years

By Jennifer Boles

Introduction by Stephen Drucker

Most decorating books focus on one designer; the rest focus on one period, one trend, one room. This book, for the first time, has the big picture: ALL the names everybody must know from the entire 100-year history of interior design. Each designer is profiled and illustrated with three to four photographs of their best work; what we can learn from them—and how they changed decorating forever—is clearly highlighted to catch the eye.

Jennifer Boles was one of the first bloggers on the design scene, in 2008, with The Peak of Chic. She has won the “Best Writing on a Design Blog” award at the Design Bloggers Hall of Fame in Los Angeles, and been profiled in the New York Times, Elle Décor, and Town & Country, among other publications. Boles frequently lectures at design centers, museums, and show houses around the country. In a 2013 article about Ms. Boles in the New York Times, Stephen Drucker observed, “Jennifer isn’t the usual facile love-love-love decorating blogger.” Mr. Drucker then added, “She’s a serious student of decorating history. Her head is filled with photos of rooms, and she sees patterns among them that no one else sees. She’s like Claire Danes in ‘Homeland,’ but for living rooms.”

Stephen Drucker was the editor in chief of House Beautiful and Martha Stewart Living as well as the editor of the New York Times Home and Styles sections. During his forty-year career he also wrote extensively for Architectural Digest, House & Garden, and the New York Times. Mr. Drucker was the editor of Sunnylands: America’s Mid-Century Masterpiece, also from Vendome Press.
