L.A. designer Joe Lucas scores big with a Manhattan Beach home built for a pro hockey player and his family.

A custom Antwerp sectional by Harbinger is dressed in a Pindler outdoor fabric, setting the tone for the high-traffic living room. It’s joined by custom club chairs in Summit’s Raffaello outdoor fabric,  Aerin Lauder floor lamps for Visual Comfort, a cocktail table from Custom Furniture & Cabinets, and a side table from Made Goods. Color comes in the form of Pindler draperies that are trimmed in Holland & Sherry fabric; Sherwin-Williams’sSlate Tile covers the built-ins. Rounding out the space is a Currey & Co light fixture and a rug from S&J Biren.

Matt Morris Development and Douglas Leach Architecture collaborated on the Manhattan Beach, California, family home of Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown and his wife Nicole. Interiors were designed by Joe Lucas. The kitchen is brought to life by custom cabinetry by VSI Custom Cabinetscovered in Light French Gray by Sherwin-Williams,  Caesarstonecountertops, Chemin de Fer hardware by Schaub & Co, and Perrin & Rowesink fittings. Urban Electric Co. fixtures and RH barstools complete the space.

Designed to seat the entire family (and then some), the breakfast nook features a custom vinyl bench cushion with Alamwar Textiles, Roman shades in Pindler’s Jefferson fabric, and dining chairs from Noir. Anchoring the space is a modern fixture by Custom Furniture & Cabinets.

Lucas lacquered the study in Rainstorm by Sherwin-Williams, which adds instant mood to the home. Joining the scene is a sofa from Bunny Williams Home upholstered in a Pindler velvet, a side chair from Serena & Lily, a cocktail table from Custom Furniture & Cabinets, and a Stark carpet. The artwork is made of Legos and was commissioned by the homeowners to replicate a drawing done by a family member.

A Swedish-style chest of drawers from Wisteria topped with black Calacatta marble creates an unexpected vanity in the powder room, while navy-blue Krane wallpaper by Sharon Lee and Arteriors sconces exude a modern moodiness.
A refined grasscloth by Walfab sheathes the walls in the master suite, setting the mood for the palette and Alex K. Mason artwork. Pressed up against the metal RH bed frame is a Bunny Williams Home sofa upholstered in a snakeskin-printed Nomi fabric and strewn with Coral & Tusk and Rule of Three pillows. A vintage leather chair and a Brooks etched-leather cocktail table, both from Harbinger, complete the seating area. Lamps and a pendant from Visual Comfort provide additional lighting within the suite.

The expansive master bath nods to tradition by way of classic tapered sconces from the Urban Electric Co., Michael Smith mirrors for Mirror Image Home, and fittings by Waterworks. A perfectly poised Bunny Williams Home settee is upholstered in Jacques Bouvet outdoor fabric and dressed with HD Buttercup and Jennifer Shorto pillows. Tiles from Classic Tiles frame the Hydro Systems bathtub centered in the room.

A sophisticated bedroom was in order for the daughter: Ferrick Mason–upholstered closet doors embellished with knobs from Liz’s Antique Hardware,  Sister Parish curtains, and a peaceful Sherwin-Williams Unique Gray graces the walls. The space also includes Serena & Lily bedding, a custom headboard from Harbinger, nightstands from Made Goods, and an Aerin Lauder chandelier for Visual Comfort.

Lucas was seeing double when it came to designing two of the boys’ room. Bobbin bed frames from the Land of Nod join a wool broadloom carpet from S&J Biren and an Alamwar Roman. The space is further accentuated by the delicate lines of the Atelier de Troupe sconces at each bedside and a Serge Mouille–esque fixture from France & Son overhead.

The 6, 500-square-foot coastal-style home was brought to life by contractor Matt Morris Development and architect Douglas Leach. When it came to life outside, the homeowners looked to Jones Landscapes to provide the lush plantings and manicured greenery that spans the property. Lucas chose Farrow & Ball’s Charlotte’s Locks to give the front door a complementary pop and Pratt & Lambert’s Driftwood for subtle contrast on the garage and casings.
