Wanderlust Wednesday: Viking River Cruise

Those who know me of follow my blog know I have a SERIOUS case of wanderlust.  I think it is an inherited trait I got from my grandmother, Boo. She traveled the world constantly to exotic locales bringing home treasures from every port along the way.  I remember fondly my wooden clogs from Holland. I also share her shopaholic ways.

My wanderlust is being set free to travel this summer on an upcoming trip with Viking River Cruise.  I am headed down the Romantic Danube from Budapest, to Vienna, through Germany and many stops in between in August.  I could not be more ecstatic about this opportunity as I have been DYING to go on a river cruise ever since Downton Abbey started airing their taunting commercials with each episode.

Romantic Danube

During this 8-day journey, encounter the grand cities and quaint villages along the celebrated Danube River. Explore both sides of Hungary’s capital, traditional “Buda” and more cosmopolitan “Pest, ” and from Fishermen’s Bastion see how the river divides this fascinating city. Experience Vienna’s imperial architecture and gracious culture, and tour riverside towns in Austria’s Wachau Valley. Explore a baroque cathedral and stroll cobbled streets lined with half-timbered houses. Savor the tastes of authentic dishes, learn about local legends, and understand why Strauss immortalized the “Blue Danube” in his famous melody.

We are even going a few days early to explore more of Budapest. I booked The Four Seasons Gresham Palace. I hear it is wonderful… any travel suggestions are welcome as this whole trip is new territory for us.

I am looking forward to the ability to unpack and have one bed for most of the trip while going to many stops along the way, one of the many advantages of a cruise.

“It’s convenient & comfortable – with no packing and unpacking, switching hotels or lugging baggage around. Think of river cruising as life on a fine, floating hotel; light, airy, with no motion sickness.”

I will be blogging from my veranda with WI-FI! I do love my internet.

I have even started a Pinterest board for travel inspiration and guides to the cities we are visiting. Follow along…

I will be sharing more about my travels as they happen later in the summer.

Who knows maybe next year I will conquer more stops on THIS incredible Viking Ocean Cruise.  Their new ocean ships are getting rave reviews.
