Happy Art Love Monday and long weekend!

I have been a longtime fan of Rick Beck’s incredible cast glass sculptures, but naturally, I am particularly smitten with the dogs. Shocking, I know. Give me fabulous art AND a dog and I am basically powerless.

Beck is known for transforming familiar forms, from oversized screws and spoons to figures and four-legged friends, into bold, colorful cast glass sculptures. His work plays with scale, shape, light and color in a way that makes everyday objects feel completely unexpected.

A longtime North Carolina artist, Beck spent 30 years working in Spruce Pine before moving to Hawaii in 2020. He earned his BA from Hastings College and MFA from Southern Illinois University, and has deep ties to the American Studio Glass movement and Penland School of Craft. His work can be found in museum and private collections across the country and internationally.

And then there are the dogs. Chunky, colorful, slightly quirky and completely irresistible. Hidell Brooks has even featured an exclusive cast-glass golden retriever, which clearly needs to come live with me and my pack.

Art that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but is seriously good. LOVE.
