Why give one surprise when you can give a whole countdown? Advent calendars are one of my favorite holiday gifts for adults and children alike. A little something to open each day makes December feel even more magical. Why should the kids have all the fun?

I have such sweet childhood memories of a handmade felt Advent calendar my parents had. I loved that daily ritual and the anticipation of Christmas getting closer. My children have had quite the upgrade with beauty, needlepoint, and booze. Clearly, the tradition has evolved!

These also make fabulous gifts to give at Thanksgiving. While everyone is gathered together, send them home with something to enjoy throughout the month ahead. Pick one for each person’s particular obsession or choose a treat-filled calendar for the family to share.
