Art Love: Liza Hathaway Matthews

I’m sharing some art love today revisiting a previous Artist Spotlight Series featuring Liza Hathaway Matthews HERE.

Her work has evolved with a little pandemic inspiration.

These recent pieces are so full of joy and remind me of my summers in the NC mountains and the abundance of flowers and color.

See the entire new collection and more HERE.

This overall flower collection of paintings and vases started last summer. As the pandemic took over our lives, I retreated to my studio and found painting gardens and flowers with all the colors they bring into our lives was a much needed bright spot!

I just went for it with little direction or idea on where each piece might end. Painting was and continues to be a great escape to get lost and to just enjoy creating.

In this new body of work, I have also included three new vases. They are porcelain and painted with acrylic and oil paint with a high gloss varnish to protect the paint.

These vases are completely new for me and are one of kind and continues to help me envision my work on other surfaces. Imagining my flowers on pretty bed linens, table linens and other home accessories continues to be a dream and goal for me!

I am also crazy about this piece!
