Fall always brings a fresh crop of beautiful design books, and this year has delivered. I firmly believe every room needs books: stacked on cocktail tables, piled beside chairs, tucked under lamps, and mixed into shelves with art and collected treasures.

Three new releases are at the very top of my fall list, all from designers who understand that the best rooms are layered, personal, collected, and never too perfect.

Bunny Williams & Elizabeth Lawrence: Decoration

If Bunny Williams writes a new design book, I am buying it. Add Elizabeth Lawrence to the mix, and consider it done. Decoration is a master class in timeless, collected interiors, from layering pattern and texture to mixing periods, mastering scale, and creating rooms that are elegant but actually livable.

Minimalists beware. The rest of us should preorder immediately.

Charlotte Moss: At Home in Virginia

Charlotte Moss opening the doors to her own Virginia home and gardens? Say no more.

At Home in Virginia gives us a personal peek into her wonderfully layered world of beautiful textiles, collections, gardens, entertaining spaces, and gracious country-house living. Elegant, personal, and absolutely not afraid of a little stuff. My kind of house.

Cathy Kincaid: Memorable Rooms

Cathy Kincaid had me at color, pattern, antiques, and bespoke details.

Memorable Rooms celebrates what takes a room from beautiful to truly unforgettable: glorious textiles, antiques, personal collections, hand-painted walls, custom details, and the talented artisans behind them. There are projects from Sun Valley to East Hampton and even Charlotte, with contributions from favorites including de Gournay, Leontine Linens, and Lisa Fine.

More is more when it is done this well.
