One Room Challenge Fall 2015: Kickoff

It is that time again for the One Room Challenge!!!

I am a glutton for punishment yet, it seems it may be the only way to actually motivate me to do anything in my own house.

I have done our Home Office,  Bo’s Bedroom and The Ping Pong Emporium in past ORC’s.

This One Room Challenge Fall 2015 I am tackling my playroom.  It is basically a wallowing pit of destruction. I am ashamed to even show it but, here goes.

The negative to this overused room is that my husband, children, and 3 dogs use and misuse it all the time and I never really decorated it either. You also enter this room directly from the back door and I hate what guests are forced to see upon entering this oversized dog bed of a room. It is the leftovers from other spaces. The sectional was the wrong color when I bought it at the Mitchell Gold Outlet but I loved the lines knowing I would recover it in the future. The time is NOW and that is where One Room Challenge comes in.

ORC Fall 2015 / The English Room BEFORE

Most of the art will stay in this room with some additions.  It is still off the wall from my showhouse with Traditional Home last spring…I never rehung and have moved things around. Expect a killer gallery wall if nothing else.

These people are a mess…

Wow…how disgusting are those bookshelves…I cringe walking through here!

These are part of the problem…Maple

and Waffles…

But how can you say no to that face? #sucker

ORC Fall 2015 / The English Room BEFORE

Notice all the mismatched and lack of pillows…Maple was kind enough to spend her entire puppy year (she is now 15 months) chewing through the corners of every pillow in the playroom.  She is a real charmer!

The table that was put in there by default and is a collector of daily junk.  Regardless of the amount of cleaning, EVERYONE drops their daily piles as they enter. It drives me insane!

It has a tent made of a box currently…nice designer touch.

Also – please send all of that art my way so you can start with a clean slate 😉

  • October 11, 2015

I agree, this is really not nearly as bad as the worst space in my house (with kids and a dog, also). I look forward to seeing how you make this playroom fabulous and family friendly!

  • October 11, 2015

My dear, your family is just wonderful. I can feel their fun energy flying off the screen in those photos. Now I can really see where your exuberant use of color comes from – you are surrounded by high energy, loving people all day. How nice that must be! Anyone who can make a ping pong table into the coolest dining room of all will have no problem at all with this room. The only question I have for you is are you going to hang the TV on the wall? Of course, that begs the question – will you also get a bigger one? I just went through this with my playroom and we ended up spending most of the budget on a 65 inch 4K TV with 3D. We love it, though! Looking forward to watching your journey in the ORC.

  • October 11, 2015

I will happily follow along to see you make this space incredible just like all your other spaces! Excited to be on this journey with you! xo, Paige

Your family is so cute, reminds me so much of my own brood. I’m right on the fence of wanting/getting a dog and Maple and Waffles are beyond cute…but the pillow chewing thing is a bit scary! Anyway excited to see you fabulous room unfold and transform!
