One Room Challenge Spring 2018: Week 3

I am hot back off the highway from High Point Market which was invigorating and exhausting at the same time.

As you may know from WEEK 1 & WEEK 2, I am participating in the Spring 2018 One Room Challenge.

Here is the plan from last week in picture / vendor form.

Be sure to go back and read about each selection specifically.

The big addition to the main board this week is the Stark Carpet Tigress in Stone.  You must know by now I am a super fan of animal print carpets.  They stand he test of time in terms of style as well as durability.  They are a version of chic com for the floor.  As much as I adore antelope patterns I was ready for something new.  This Tigress pattern creates a neutral and is extra plush.

Hallway Light – The Hudson Valley Travis Aged Brass Four-Light Pendant with Clear Acrylic Shade is a stunner from Bellacor.  This is one of my new favorite lighting lines. Mixing the timely with the timeless, American designers created an ultra glamorous look that defines the silver screen‘s golden age. Travis draws inspiration from Hollywood regency style by encasing a sleek and elegantly proportioned chandelier in a cut and polished cube of modern acrylic glass.

Here is the hallway inspiration:

Now for the art and accessories…. Lots of placement and decisions have been made.  I cannot wait to get them installed.

As you can see I am not going to shy away from color.  I have chosen lots of my favorites (many from my Artist Spotlight Series) to make my space come alive.

The existing pieces are the:

Geraldine Neuwirth’s circus set floating shape #2 2016 Collage from Hidell Brooks Gallery with its colorful layers and depth that one must see to believe. I featured her here and she happens to be the mother of amazing jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth

Gucci Funky Fresh from The New Gallery of Modern Art.  This colorful embroidery piece is from his luxury line featuring embellished boxes framed in acrylic with neon butterflies.  It screams my name…loudly. I featured Stephen Wilson here.

The new pieces I am adding are:

The mini ribbon my fellow ORC friend and talented artist, Angela Blehm, whom I featured HERE. I am happy to the ribbon and lips to my space. She is such a talent that is amazingly busy I am as grateful for her kindness.  You can order the limited edition ribbon HERE

I turned to the AMAZING Chairish Print shop for a wonderful set of prints to frame the TV.  The Stephanie Henderson Small prints are bold and beautiful with vibrant and joyful colors. I chose Small “Pink and Orange Forever” Small “Pink and Blue Forever”Small “Violet and Green Forever”Small “Blue and Green Forever”.  See my feature on Stephanie HERE

I have commissioned Gina Julian of Nashville to do a piece (I told her to create whatever she wants) for the long space above the mantle. I cannot wait to see what it looks like. Gina is one to watch also on the rise.  Her Op Art pieces are gorgeous!  See my feature of her here

Gray Malin photography is such a standout. While I do adore all his aerial photography I wanted to use one of his animal pieces. In working together we selected 2 pieces to go over my giant sofa.  I am thrilled to have Polka Dot Llama II and Polka Dot Llama I join my menagerie.  Mentored by Bolivian photographer Gastón Ugalde, Gray shot this series in the world’s largest salt flat, Salar de Uyuni, spanning 5,000 square miles at 12,000 ft in elevation. The color temperature nears 7,000 kelvins, making objects appear brighter than normal. Each image is presented without editing except for the removal of the ropes used to corral the animals. This body of work is left up to the viewer to interpret; for Gray, it’s about capturing the whimsical happiness of a place unknown. Evoke a whimsical fantasy with the POLKA DOT LLAMA Series. This native animal returns to set, garnished with neon spots for the second installment of Gray’s Far Far Away series. Add this playful piece into your space for a pop of color and fun.

Lighting and accessories certainly play a big role too.

For the scones as you enter the room I chose a pair of the Quorum Broadway 15″ High 2-Light Aged Brass Wall Sconce from Lamps Plus. This dazzling two-light wall sconce features a rectangular outer frame of thick clear crystal with cut-out corners and an inner, lantern-like silhouette. Inside the opening of the crystal, a metal framework in aged brass finish holds two candelabra bulbs.

For the pair of End Table Lamps I went with Dimond Swirl Glass Radiant Orchid Glass Table Lamps from Overstock. The tall slender undulating form of this delicate lamp is reminescent of classical glass chandeliers. Set atop an acrylic base, the slight addition of color to the hand blown glass accentuates the soft curving lines of the lamp body. The piece is finished off with a hard back white faux-silk shade. This soft color is the perfect balance to the other bold colors throughout.

I am working with Bellacor for Cupcakes and Cashmere Gold One-Light Table Lamp with Metal Mesh for the existing backgammon table. Cupcakes and Cashmere bring you a lighting line that celebrates the little pleasures in life and helps you create an elevated and beautiful home. Finished in metallic gold at 11-Inch high, our Mesh Marble Up light weaves metal mesh, creating eye-catching ambiance. Perched atop a white marble base, its cage body design rewards a home with contemporary appeal.

I am again back to Hudson Valley with the Mini Hinsdale 5-light LED Aged Brass Table Lamp from Overstock. Mini-Hinsdale reimagines the popular Hinsdale family as a lamp. A solid marble base mount adds a new dimension to the piece, creating a luxurious mix of materials. Attached to the electric cord, a manual dimmer switch puts you in charge of setting the mood to your liking. Mini-Hinsdale makes an artistic statement in any space it adorns, while adding a subtle sense of playfulness. The Mini Hinsdale Table Lamp comes in a aged brass finish with a white opal glass shade. This fixture has a base made of metal, marble material and requires five (5) 3-watt LED base bulbs (included).

For a little glitter and sparkle to the Cocktail table I chose Pair of Diamond Cut Hurricanes from Overstock. Accent any empty table or shelf with this charming pair of stratford hurricane from Vintage Hip. Crafted with clear glass, this candle holder will make a great addition to any home decor.

Also from Overstock I chose the Studio 350 Metal Acrylic Accent Table for a computer laptop work table. 18″ x 24″ Modern Reflections metal and acrylic accent table, rectangular table top made from clear acrylic, L-shaped iron frame with matte gold finish.

I turned to my dear pals at Couture Lamps to add some chic to my project with their Deer Antler Set. Life’s great retreats start here. We took 2 kinds of deer antlers, and reproduced them in clear resin, creating an eye-catching decorative accessory. I also added a pair of Couture Carr Table Lamps for the chest. Decorated with frosted crystal, this Carr table lamp from Couture boasts fine detail throughout the design. The brass finish accents the look and feel of this lamp with decorative presence. With a white linen round hardback shade atop it, this lamp is a charmer.

Additional Pillows are also a must on that long 108″ sofa.  Arianna Belle is crafting me some solid bright velvet pillows in Orchid, Purple and Capri Blue to add more pop. Her readymade pillow covers are so well priced they are hard to resist.

The walk in closet interior will also get a big fluff by adding the York Wallcoverings Candice Olsen Dream On Onyx Wallpaper from Bellacor. This paper transports me to Italy with the marbled paper look. In a burst of creative inspiration, the artist fashioned this large-scale patchwork of varied color. The pattern resembles layers of mineral grain in a beautiful slice of onyx.

I am also upgrading the outlets in the spaces with these Legrand Adorne Dual USB, Plus Size Combo Outlet and White Wall Plate Bundle. Perfect anywhere you’d like to charge two devices simultaneously while also using receptacles. This combination outlet and wall plate set can replace any existing outlet for maximum charging. In the hallway I added Legrand Adorne White Pop-Out 1-Gang Outlet. Hide your outlets when not in use with the White Pop-Out 1-Gang Outlet. This clever outlet pops in and out with one push, offering easy access to 3 plugs. A child-proof tamper resistant shutter system helps prevent insertion of foreign objects. Ideal for rooms with heavy use of appliances or electronics, like the kitchen, bath or home office.

For the closet I also added 2 Feiss Hounslow Oil Rubbed Bronze One-Light Flush Mount with Clear Glass to update the single bulbs hanging from the ceiling. The Feiss Hounslow One Light Flush Mount provides abundant light to your home, while adding style and interest. This fixture enhances the beauty of your home with ample light and style to match today‘s trends.

What are your thoughts?

Have I finally gone too far and lost my marbles?

I have most of the decisions made but I still need to implement as well as get a ceiling plan.

Tune in next Wednesday to see my plan and the next 3 weeks to see my progress and reveal.
