Viyet Feature: Live in Color

I was thrilled to be featured and interviewed on Viyet blog!

 Are you familiar with Viyet?

It is a go to source of designers and consumers alike. We all have nice pieces of furniture that we cannot use any more and need to sell. Local consignment shops never seem to fetch a great price. Viyet is the answer.

Viyet is the design aficionado’s destination to buy and sell timeless furniture and accessories. We make it easy for owners of high-end furniture to sell their pieces when it comes time to move or redecorate. For shoppers, we offer access to designer brand names at a fraction of retail prices. Since launching in April 2013, we have featured pieces from distinguished lines such as B&B Italia, Cassina, Christian Liaigre, Holly Hunt, Ligne Roset, and Mies van der Rohe, among many others. We are a team devoted to making Viyet the online destination for exceptional pre-owned designer furniture. Design leadership, extraordinary customer service, and technological innovation define how Viyet is transforming the way people buy and sell designer furniture.” Screen Shot 2016-09-03 at 12.13.13 PM

Designer Q&A: Holly Hollingsworth of The English Room

When it comes to the big “design” destinations, most think of the obvious places: New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. But the decor scene is strong — if not stronger — in smaller cities. Case in point: Charlotte, North Carolina. The city is just down the highway from High Point (America’s hub of finely crafted furniture production) and is home to an array of creatives who are up on trends. It’s no coincidence that Viyet chose Charlotte as its latest design destination! To celebrate, we chatted with Holly Hollingsworth, the Charlotte-based designer and blogger behind The English Room. Here’s what she had to say about her singular (bold!) sense of style, fall trends, and her recommendations for what to see, do, and eat in Charlotte.

Viyet: What is your go-to source for inspiration?

Hollingsworth: Travel is my ultimate source for inspiration. I thrive on seeing new places and going on adventures. Travel is not only inspiration but the ultimate education. Instagram and Pinterest are invaluable, too.

Viyet: What item can you not live without?

Hollingsworth: iPhone and/or laptop, then art. They are not an item, but my dogs, too.

Viyet: Where is the best place to go for coffee, ice cream, drinks, quiet space, fresh air, good food, shoes, etc. in Charlotte?

Hollingsworth: Coffee: My husband makes a mean coffee. Laurel Market is my second choice.

Ice Cream: I am a fan of Nye’s Cream Sandwiches from Reid’s Fine Foods or King of Pops gourmet Popsicles.

Drinks: Foxcroft Wine Company for some great Chardonnay and a cheese plate.

Donuts: Duck Donuts is a real treat. Your world will be rocked.

Quiet Space: When feeling like I need a quiet minute to myself, I often head to The Mint Museum Randolph or The Mint Museum Uptown and wander the galleries.

Fresh Air: A hike with my 3 dogs at our mountain cottage in Linville, just 2 hours away. I also spend lots of time at the barn with my young equestrian. It is lovely therapy.

Good Food: The best meal I have had in ages was at Kindred in Davidson. It was well worth the drive for the craft cocktail and milk bread alone. I am a fan of Pinky’swhen you need an indulgent burger and fried pickles. Good Food on Montford is great for small plates.

Shoes: Sadly, my shoe size is not always stocked because I have very large feet. Capitol and Poole Shop are certainly where I covet and buy when possible.

Art: Hidell Brooks Gallery has an amazing selection of artists.

Vintage Furniture: Slate Interiors has an ever-revolving selection of great vintage finds.

Viyet: Who are your design icons?

Hollingsworth: Elsie de Wolfe, David Hicks, Tony Duquette and Iris Apfel. There are truly so many. I feel we can learn from everyone.

Viyet: If you could design a space for anyone, what kind of space and for whom would it be?

Hollingsworth: I would LOVE to design a boutique hotel. I am such a fan of Kit Kemp’s hotels with each personalized room. The thought of creating a space for people away from their daily lives allows more creativity and freedom somehow, which is quite intriguing.

My style in six words or less:

 Colorful, Collected, Layered, Artful, Happy

Viyet: Tell us your favorite design-related word, phrase, or quote.

Hollingsworth: “More is More, less is a bore, ” by Iris Apfel. I am a true maximalist.

Viyet: What is your favorite room in your home and why?

Hollingsworth: The family room, because it is where all my people and pets convene at the end of the day. It is colorful and comfortable, and of course brimming with art.

Viyet: What are the fall trends you are looking forward to?

Hollingsworth: Animal prints are trending. Leopard is always a fall staple. I am also really loving the design trend toward craft-made and small production items. Artisan products make me proud to support artists and craftsmen around the globe. The textile boom in particular has me swooning.

Viyet: What do you love about Viyet?

Hollingsworth: I love the huge selection of well-curated vintage items that are being repurposed to provide new life. Instant gratification is nice, too. Design often takes time.
