I am currently in a full-blown Josef Frank state of mind, which feels especially appropriate as I get ready for an upcoming Scandinavian adventure to Copenhagen and Stockholm.

This week’s Wallpaper Wednesday obsession is Vårklockor by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn, a gloriously happy botanical pattern designed in the 1940s. It is colorful, whimsical, slightly wild and completely timeless. In other words, everything I want wallpaper to be.

Frank famously rejected the idea that quiet, stripped-down rooms were necessarily more calming. Instead, he believed pattern, color and nature could actually make a room feel freer and more inviting. Clearly, Josef and I would have gotten along beautifully.

And while Copenhagen promises plenty of design inspiration, I am particularly excited to add Stockholm to the trip and finally make my pilgrimage to Svenskt Tenn on Strandvägen. The legendary shop has been there since 1927 and is filled with room settings, textiles, furniture and layer upon layer of the pattern-filled magic created by Josef Frank and Estrid Ericson.

I cannot wait to see it all in person, soak up the inspiration and undoubtedly convince myself that I need more Josef Frank in my life.

Because restraint is lovely for other people.
