Artist Spotlight Series: Swantribune
I am so excited to introduce you to Swantribune created by Daniel Cohen and Divya Zeiss.
This creative couple has a mutual passion for bygone travel.
The couple launched Swantribune, which began as a globetrotting guide and now encompasses their illustrations of places they’ve visited around the world – souvenirs of their journey’s.
Enjoy getting to know
What is your training?
I studied Fashion Styling in Italy but never found my place in the world of Fashion. It was only recently during an internship in Jaipur that I dared pick up paper and paint, (with no experience in the world of art), and began to trust my imagination.
What inspires you and your designs?
I am very inspired by my childhood, which was spent in a boarding school in India. We slept under the Himalayas and felt very protected by every aspect of mother earth.
Then growing up, my travels became very important. I searched for beauty, for a bygone sense of glamor and that reflects in my drawings. I like to believe that theres an element of magic in the world and perhaps I try to add that to my illustrations, the innocence of believing in something more.
What is your favorite piece?
At the moment, only if I had to say, it would be the Lobby of the new Jaffa hotel in Tel Aviv, theres something about the colours I find powerful.
Of course Im nostalgic about my Indian illustrations because I have beautiful memories in each lobby of each hotel. The Imperial,The Narian Niwas, The Naila.
How has the your area influenced your work?
My room is my area, its my world. Almost every piece has a meaning and a memory. My room is my time machine, which brings me back to a particular moment or place.
What is your favorite restaurant in Berlin?
Grosz because it gives you a glimpse into how grand Berlin once was.
What is your favorite cocktail?
I don’t drink and am no connoisseur of the world of cocktails. I live off coffee, I would even order a coffee in a bar. At night.
How do you balance personal life and work?
The balance has developed out of itself. I have the luck of having a husband who is extremely supportive, to the extend that he will leave to the office early so I can enjoy my breakfast, which is the moment Im usually most inspired and creative.
I stop when he returns and the rest of the evening is for us.
Dream trip?
Booking the whole Orient Express, each cabin for a person or couple I love and after having breakfast in The Raffles Hotel in Singapore, we would ride through Asia.
Dream commission?
Dare I say Hermes?
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
Flowers
Who is your style icon?
My Grandmothers. The German and the Italian.
Your favorite up and coming artist?
What is your most treasured possession?
A necklace given by my husband on our wedding day.
What are you reading?
What are you listening to?
A lot of Perry Como.
What are your favorite blogs / publications?
Would you shake your head if I told you I don’t know any blogs.. Im a disaster on this front, I stick to books.
