There are shops you visit, and then there are shops that make you want to redo your entire house immediately.

Visiting Studio Cathy Nordström in Stockholm was firmly the latter.

I have admired Cathy’s colorful, joyful textiles for years, so getting to visit her shop and studio in Stockholm’s Östermalm neighborhood was such a treat. Pattern, color, craftsmanship, fabulous lampshades, pillows, wallpaper… basically all of my weaknesses under one very chic Swedish roof.

Cathy founded her textile house in 2019, and her fabrics are designed in Stockholm with a wonderful emphasis on craftsmanship and traditional printing techniques. Many of the Heritage Collection fabrics are hand printed in Sweden, giving them that layered, slightly imperfect quality that makes a textile feel special rather than mass produced.

And the COLOR.

The combinations feel distinctly Scandinavian but never quiet or boring. Saffron, tobacco, indigo, pea green, dusty blue, rust and lilac all happily mingle together. The patterns are graphic and playful while still feeling collected enough to mix beautifully with antiques, art and textiles from around the world. In other words, very much my language.

I especially love seeing the fabrics carried beyond upholstery into ruffled pillows, patterned lampshades and wallpaper. More pattern is almost always the answer.

My Stockholm inspiration levels were already dangerously high, and Cathy Nordström certainly did nothing to calm them down.

Consider this another reason I may never fully recover from Scandinavia.
