Artist Spotlight Series: Lisa Zager

Wow!  This Artist Spotlight Series feature is long overdue.

I reached out to this talent about a year ago and her email got buried in my ridiculous inbox.

The good news is that her work and talent has blossomed in that time.

Enjoy getting to know.

Lisa Zager

Nashville, TN

What is your training?

I attended Interior design school in Chicago and took painting classes at The Art Institute in the evenings.

What inspires you and your designs?

I am inspired both by organic and geometric shapes because shape is what gives identity to form. In my work, as an interior designer, the things that I see also inspire me. I see so many patterns and color combinations that are intriguing. I always look for the new and emerging artist in design.

What is your favorite piece?

My favorite piece is one of my newest, “Calma.” I love the subtlety and the scale of it.

How has your area influenced your work?

I think I am more inspired by things that have happened in my life and the people that I surround myself with, including my two sons. I love traveling and that also inspires me in so many different ways.

What is your favorite restaurant in Nashville?

Barcelona

What is your favorite cocktail?

I love a good Martini with blue cheese olives.

How do you balance personal life and work?

I try to be very disciplined during the week with my job and relax and paint on the weekends. There are so many things that I like to do, for example, going out with friends, that keep me busy and interested, so I am hoping that the transition of my son going off to college with go smoothly. My latest personal goal that I have been working really hard on is to become more organized. I think I have come a long way and it really makes balancing my personal life and work easier and more fun.

Dream trip?

Spain!

Dream commission?

I would love to do a commercial commission, like a restaurant or a retail store.

Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?

Champagne

Who is your style icon?

I think Paola Navone, who works in product design. I also love Saul Bass, who was a graphic design artist in cinema. My other favorite style icon is Paul Rand. He designed logos for major companies.

Your favorite up and coming artist?

Todd Greene. Everyone should look him up! He does a lot of 3D pieces that are primitive but modern at the same time. His use of color is fantastic.

What is your most treasured possession?

My Bearded Collie, Tula, who I named after my favorite fabric pattern. She is 6 months old.

What are you reading?

My Spain travel guide. I am finally going on my dream trip this coming fall! Ibiza!

What are you listening to?

Nina Simone. She is my absolute favorite.

What are your favorite blogs / publications?

I always read Elle Décor! My new favorite though is Milieu.
