Happy Art Love Monday…

I rarely fall head over heels for portraiture, but British artist Phoebe Dickinson has completely changed my mind. Her paintings are nothing short of mesmerizing. Equal parts portrait, interior, landscape, and storytelling, each work feels like stepping into a grand English country house and discovering a perfectly preserved moment in time.

What captivates me most is her ability to paint not just the subject, but the atmosphere surrounding them. The rooms, gardens, textiles, and architecture are as much a character in the painting as the sitter themselves. Whether she is painting the children of the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley at Houghton Hall, capturing scenes at Belvoir Castle, or depicting the beauty of King Charles’s gardens, every canvas feels layered with history, romance, and impeccable style.

Trained in Florence and London, Dickinson has earned accolades from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, yet her work never feels stuffy or formal. Instead, it has a dreamy, cinematic quality that reminds me of John Singer Sargent with a fresh English country-house twist.

The paintings that truly stopped me in my tracks are her works at Houghton Hall and Belvoir Castle.

The interiors, gardens, and sense of place are every bit as compelling as the subjects themselves. Frankly, it is interior designer catnip. If you love grand houses, beautiful rooms, lush landscapes, and a touch of aristocratic glamour, prepare to lose an hour scrolling her portfolio.

I rarely like portraits, but Phoebe Dickinson has me completely enchanted.
